A third-person sound base action game takes place in an underwater world and the player needs to be able to identify different notes, find the correct tempo, and use them to attack and solve puzzles. This is a capstone project in FIEA, the team consists of 21 people, and I cooperated with other designers, artists, and programmers.  

I work as a game designer and a level designer in the team. I designed the Cave Town level, made the white box, and then did the set dressing of it. I also designed some of the puzzles and made prototypes of them. During the process, the level has several iterations which will be shown in the process section.


The Process

The background of the game is a fantasy underwater world, so I start with finding some images and references for inspiration. And then start a 2D layout design including gameplays and gameflows.

Then I started making the whitebox, proxys, and part of the prototype of the puzzles.

Based on early playtesting, feedbacks and scope management, we made several adjustments and I modified the level accordingly. With further playtesting and discussion, there are more iterations and changes. After finalizing the level, I start the formal set dressing of it.
